A Place to Keep My Thoughts

I have created this blog as a place to keep my thoughts about the golf swing, almost like Harvey Penick did for all those years.  In no way am I comparing myself to Harvey Penick, I just want to record what I learn as I continue down the road of teaching people the game of golf. I have many thoughts and ideas about the swing and how to teach people, and I know I have an infinite amount I can still learn on reaching more people and helping them learn the game of golf.  I am going to be able to do that here and hopefully through this I can read, learn and continue to stay grounded and always remember why I teach.. for the students.
The golf swing to me should be something that is very simple and very repeatable.  If we can limit the moving pieces of the golf swing and keep everything in alignment we can pretty much ensure quality, consistent contact.  There are few key elements and things that need to happen.  Alignment, grip, and posture need to remain constant.  Balance and tempo are two things that golfers absolutely never work on and they are simple things that can help all aspects of your game.  But,  if we can keep it simple we improve dramatically.       I am firm believer in teaching a person to play better golf not just teaching a person to have a better swing.  There will be portion of teaching that will focus on fixing a fault in the swing but that should not be the only focus.  The mental game, course management, managing expectations, and keeping the short game as sharp as possible are all things that do not require Ernie Els' rhythm or Adam Scott's swing plane.
